YOUR BRIDGE QUERIES ANSWERED – PROBLEM 186

Your Bridge Queries Answered – Problem 186

Hi Ron,

South was the dealer and passed. West passed and North opened 2 Spades holding :

  • spade K Q J 8 5 3
  • heart 7 3
  • diamond A 5 4
  • club J 7

11 points.  Is this the correct bid after two passes?

I was next to speak and held

  • spade A 7 2
  • heart A J 4
  • diamond K Q J 2
  • club 8 3 2

15 points.   I know I should probably have bid 2NT, but with only one stopper (and against a very good declarer) I passed. (CHICKEN)
My partner held:

  • spade 10 4
  • heart K 9 8 5 2
  • diamond 8 7
  • club A K 9 5

And also passed, and they went down 2 not vul.

We could have made 4 hearts, so I felt pretty silly not bidding.

What would you recommend that I do, and what should my partner do if I did bid 2NT?  2NT would have gone down 1.

How would you answer this query?
